It’s the morning of January 29th and upon waking, I had to pinch myself. Is this real? Did last night really happen? I checked my computer. Yup, we did it. We really, really did it! Things We Dig, my short film in the making since 2016, after heartbreaking losses, seemingly insurmountable hurdles and many, many challenges, is finished!
Last night, after one more quick color correction by all around rockstar Stephen Mickelsen (Bad Cat Films), my phenomenal editor Peter Stoll (San Diego Digital Imagery) uploaded the finished version of the short film, and after watching it one more time (out of hundreds of times) in the quiet of my office, I poured myself a double rye whiskey, another for my biggest supporter, my hubby J.R., and we gave it a hearty toast. We fucking did it!!!
Thank you to all of my cast and crew and all our supporters that hung in there with us over the last FOUR years! It would never have been possible without you! There really are no words that can fully convey my gratitude. All I can say at this point is thank you – from the bottom of my scarred little black heart! I love you!
We will start submitting the horror comedy to film festivals starting this weekend! I can’t wait to share it with you and make it worth your wait!!!!! And yes, like it says in the graphic above…it was worth fighting for! You’ll see… :)
Make sure to follow our social media for the film to find out about festival news, screenings and more! ‘Things We Dig’ is on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Well…sort of. It wasn’t really dead. Just in a deep vampire slumber.
First there was a text message, then a few excited exchanges. A location was established for the production (finally!!!) Then talks of meetings and ideas. Then the first meeting happened with amazingly talented people. Troubleshooting and brainstorming. Ideas flying around, passions re-ignited! Excitement growing! Props were brought to the set. A second meeting. A set started taking shape! The script went through final tweaks. List-making commenced again, lots of keyboard clicking. Then a third meeting, key crew confirmations and then a new cast addition.
Indeed, Things We Dig has crawled out of its coffin, dusted itself off and is ready for blood!
We moved the coffin AND the chandelier this time ;)
This all has been quietly happening over the last 3 months or so. At first I kept it super quiet as not to jinx anything, but as things got rolling, it was getting harder and harder to keep it under wraps. I’m so excited! This is ALL of my focus right now and it is giving me LIFE!
Time to get crackin’!
I am happy to announce that my first short film “The Appointment“, which I wrote, produced, acted in, and co-directed with my filmmaker friend Jared Jacobsen, will be screened during San Diego Film Week 2017 in February!!! Congrats again to my cast and crew – so proud!!!
It will be screened as the opener of the film block ‘A Woman’s Place‘ at 8pm on February 13th at the Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA) in beautiful Balboa Park, San Diego, California. I feel very honored to be in the company of such a great lineup of short films, including ‘Holy‘, a music video by singers and LGBT activists Alicia Champion and Danielle LoPresti, directed by San Diego filmmaker Michael Brueggemeyer, in which I helped out as a production assistant. Click on this link to buy tickets for the whole block!
Come check it all out and support local filmmakers! Here’s the film block FB event and here is the whole film fest schedule – something for everybody!
