Easter Update

Hey everybody, just popping in real quick to share what I’ve been up to for the first quarter of the year.

Mostly it’s just been writing and painting. Actually, a lot of writing and painting. I also started having art prints made of my original paintings and put the first few in my Etsy store.

Since it’s all about bunnies and eggs, here are two examples available now!

Look Ma, I found a big egg!

I’m also working feverishly on new art for SDCC 2023. Yep, this is my official announcement that I’ll be back for the San Diego Comic-Con Art Show, woot! And due to popular demand, I’ll be bringing back new original art for my little warriors series!

Summer sizzle

Hi everybody! How are you? I hope you’re all enjoying the summer!

I know, I know…I just realized it’s been 6 months since my last post. Well..LOTS has happened in that time. Some great, some not so much. The year started with a death in the family and taking care of family business, but we also had a new family addition and I became an auntie again, yay! And then in March I had a little heart surgery.

The surgery was planned and I kept it on the down low because I didn’t want you to worry! I had to fix an ‘electric wiring’ issue that would make my heart suddenly speed up to 230 beats per minute (give or take) without warning! After two super scary ER trips I kinda had enough and decided to go with what is called a ‘cardiac ablation’.

I can happily report that it went well and I’m past three months recovery without any issues. Knock, knock, knock!

What it’s supposed to look like…much better.

Yay, dark little heart! Now with extra scar tissue!

So if you’ve been wondering about the state of my film project, why the delay in film production/updates, now you know! YesThings We Dig is still in the works! Never give up, never surrender!!! I don’t have any specific shoot dates or more exact info yet, but I wanted to let you know the wheels have started grinding again, slowly but surely!

So, I have been keeping busy with a few things while healing…

PiaVikSideSMWMIn barbarian warrior mode while recovering from surgery…of course I had to find ways to stay creative…somehow, be it photography or painting!

Speaking of warriors….

San Diego Comic-Con is next week and as usual, I have my annual “Her Dark Half” offerings for the Art Show. You can find out the when/where and other details on the FB event invite. I will have six original art pieces up for grabs! Sorry, not prints…yet.

A partial sneak peek of two of my little warriors (watercolor and ink)

For the 3rd and last time, I am dedicating this year’s series, titled ‘Warriors‘, to Anxiety and Depression Awareness.  Read the story behind the original inspiration here.

Like the last 2 years, I will donate 10% of each original painting’s final bid/sale at the SDCC Art Show’s silent auction to TWLOHA :)

Art for Healing

The Art Show at San Diego Comic Con 2016 is right around the corner and this will be my 5th year displaying my creations under the Sails Pavilion. In the past, I’ve always brought my lighter paintings, the more ‘cartoony’ and cheerful art, instead of my dark pieces. This time the style will still be on the whimsical side, but with a serious undertone. I’m dedicating this year’s series, titled ‘Warriors‘, to Anxiety and Depression Awareness.

Recently, I found out about a non-profit organization called “To Write Love On Her Arms” aka TWLOHA, thanks to the wonderful #AKF (or #AlwaysKeepFighting) campaign started by “Supernatural” star Jared Padalecki. The TWLOHA website states: “To Write Love on Her Arms is a movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire, and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery.”

So, I decided to donate 10% of each original painting’s final bid/sale at the SDCC Art Show’s silent auction to TWLOHA. :)

Why? Because I’ve lost family and friends to suicide and I have personally experienced the devastating effects anxiety and depression can have on you. This is my way of reaching out and paying it forward. If there’s any way I can help and contribute, even just a little, then why not through my art?

Another sneak peek..

For those who can’t attend the Art Show, I will have prints of all the original paintings available to purchase through Deviant Art, sometime after SDCC 2016. If you can make it to the Art Show, bid on my paintings, GO BIG, buy the original art and help fight anxiety & depression at the same time!

Fighters, all of them!

If you’re not interested in buying a painting; or you’re not able to (getting those SDCC badges is a whole other story) and would like to simply donate directly to TWLOHA, please click on the link here.  Incidentally, TWLOHA is also currently raising funds for people affected by the horrible shooting in Florida with their  Hope and Help for Orlando campaign.

Ok, I think I covered it all …

Have a great day, hug somebody, hope to see you at San Diego Comic-Con, and feel free to share this post with your fellow Con-goers!
