The Year that was 2014

Happy New Year 2015, everybody! Out with the old, in with the new!

2014 was a good mix of mostly ‘ups’ and thankfully few ‘downs’ for me. There were a few setbacks (mostly with family travel plans), but in the grand theme of things, nothing too dramatic, thank the stars! Creatively, it was a most EXCELLENT year, though! To think it all started with a ‘Tool’ concert…(that little story is a whole other blog in the making). A lot of things were set in motion artistically, starting with my ’66-daily-doodle-challenge’, which I completed in the first half of the year.

I credit that experience with unleashing my creative ‘explosion’ this year. I’ve been writing, painting, photographing, designing and creating visual art on a constant level ever since. That mindset enabled me to write and finish the script for my very own and first short film ‘The Appointment‘, which became a big focus most of the year. (Quick side-note: The edit is coming along nicely and we’re in the last phase of post-production! More news on ‘The Appointment’ in a separate blog soon.)

2014 also brought a few ‘firsts’. From the mundane to game-changing…..this year most were awesome! In no particular order:

First time doing real cosplay (not just wearing a store-bought costume) at San Diego Comic Con, as Tank Girl.

First time trying a Vegan diet (lasted one week, but it made eating Vegetarian look like child’s play).

First time joining a martial arts club in the U.S. (it’s been many, many years since my Karate days in Germany; and being older hurts much more this time, yikes!).

First time doing German Closed Captioning for a friend’s short film “The Case of Evil” (fun challenge!).

First time in YEARS not dressing up for Halloween *sniff* (I was too busy with pre-production for my film). I vow to hold a rip-roaring Halloween shindig next year to make up for it, damnit!

First time being able to do the Crow pose (yoga thing).

First time running an Indiegogo campaign (it met my wildest dream goal and then some!), which brings me to:

First time creating and editing an actual video longer than 30 seconds in iMovie (for the campaign pitch), lol.

And of course:

First time making my own short film and calling myself a filmmaker *squeal*!!!

New Years Resolutions? Nah…just being focused and creating something every day. The rest will follow.

May your 2015 be filled with lots of love, laughter and big hugs!

xoxo,

Pia
